object art
What I’m calling “Object Art” is an extension of an inquiry that runs through a lot of my work. That is, the notion of appropriation of found materials and objects, placing them in a new context which then transforms their meaning.
For example, in my version of a “Folding Chair”, we see the idea of something as utilitarian as a chair being altered with no relationship to its purposeful viability. This deconstructed turn of the century chair is left an absurdly useless object; an experiment gone wrong.
The materials in these different pieces include photographs as well as furniture and old books. They imitate the sensibility of found family heirlooms, suggesting evidence from another time, another life.
