Living Room
LIVING ROOM, 2014
As part of Art in the Open (AiO), an annual event organized by the Center for emerging Visual Artists, CFEVA in Philadelphia.
Judd’s project entitled “Living Room” consisted of a small structure made entirely of found materials from the streets of Philadelphia. This included the wood used to construct the walls as well as the furniture and artwork inside. The event took place in Fairmont Park near the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
The piece made a powerful statement about what we throw out, and discard. In a time of an increase in the homeless population, it is also a comment on our priorities as a community and a country. The interior includes an ornate fireplace mantel with a gold framed family portrait over it, suggesting a remnant of a prestigious family history. The work is about displacement and memory.
